During the first phase of Germany’s 2025 election process, eight hearings were cancelled by the court in Göttingen, in the criminal proceedings against the German lawyer and cofounder of the Corona Investigative Committee, Reiner Fuellmich. Although one of the judges is said to be recovering from an accident requiring an operation, since the end of November 2024, the hiatus may have been an attempt to ensure a media silence during a period in which Fuellmich needed to collect 200 signatures from citizens of Wuppertal’s district 101, to secure his position as an independent candidate.
If a media silence was indeed the objective, it was to no avail. Volunteers gathered the signatures in the cold and rain well before the deadline of January 20th, 2025.
German courts, under normal circumstances, may not interrupt a trial for longer than a month, but in graver matters of health a two-month maximum is permitted, as Fuellmich’s main lawyer, Katja Wörmer explained. Were the court to exceed the two months, then the trial would have to be nullified and commence all over again.

What makes the long break suspect is that the hearings start right after the deadline of 20 January 2025; the first hearing of the new year is January 21st.
If, indeed, the hiatus is a form of censorship, it is not the only way that German authorities attempt to limit the amount of information the public receives, about Reiner Fuellmich. For one, he is in prison on remand, unable to carry on with his investigative interviews, as well as with a class action law suit against corona measures, that was about to start in South Africa.
Secondly, he was kept in solitary confinement for half a year, during which he and his co-prisoners would be punished for even greeting each other.
Reporting on the hearings is also somewhat restricted. Journalists are not allowed to take their laptop, or mobile phone into the court. Only a single pen or pencil, plus a paper notebook are permitted.

From July 2024, the chamber’s chair, judge Schindler, forbade Fuellmich’s lawyers to orally present requests for evidence or witnesses. The written alternative means that attending journalists and the public no longer knew what was being presented, accepted or rejected.
The fifth and recently applied form of censorship is the fining of Fuellmich’s lawyer Katja Wörmer for of is by fining Since that time, only written requests have been handed over, after which the judges would retreat to their room in the back of the court and return after some time
Reiner Fuellmich has been an eyesore for multinationals and the German government, since his anti-corruption cases against Deutsche Bank, Volkswagen and Kühne + Nagel, before 2020. State hostility against him got worse, after Fuellmich co-founded the information platform Corona Investigative Committee in July 2020, which became one of the first international platforms where information scientists and other experts critical of the corona narrative offered other views on the crisis.. The platform became hugely popular and attracted hundreds of thousands viewers from all over the world and received over 3 million Euros in donations.
This, together with his attempts to start a class action against the corona measures and his candidacy for the newly formed political party Die Basis, ahead of the 2022 elections, prompted the German secret services to secretly send out the order to find, or create(!), grounds to start a criminal case against Reiner Fuellmich. The aim was to at least prevent him from ever having a political career, as a leaked document from 2021 reveals. To set the trial in motion, Fuellmich was kidnapped from Mexico, having been lured into a trap by the German Consul in Tijuana.
The selected ground – created with the help of the three Corona Ausschuss co-founders and a former class action suit assistant, Marcel Templin (all lawyers) – is an alleged misappropriation of €700,000 from the donation pot. Although the evidence of this claim has fallen to pieces during the past 39 hearings, the court seems determined to agree on a conviction.

Who has been robbed is Reiner Fuellmich himself. Nearly 1.2 million Euros of the sale price of his house was transferred, without his knowledge, to Marcel Templin. Neither the court, nor the CIC co-founders appear to find that problematic. The theft has made it impossible for Fuellmich to repay the €700,000 loan (for which two signed loan agreements exist). The surplus of 500,000 Euros, too, seems deliberate. The amount practically equals the total sum of money that forms the basis of 16 new charges in a second trial against Fuellmich. These charges were dismissed by two different prosecutors in 2022 and once by the Göttingen court itself, at the start of the current trial. The admission of the 16 charges follows a ruling by the Higher Regional Court of Braunschweig, after an appeal of public prosecutor John, in the current trial.
So far there have been 39 hearings. The hearings 2, 4, 9 ,11 and 23 December 2024; and 6, 9, and 17 January 2025 were postponed. The trial continues on the 21st of January. Six more hearings have been planned until the end of February 2025.
